THIS WEEK IN THEATRE NEWS:
from Howlround
Parenting and Playwriting: The Lady Doth Protest (but not enough)
by Catherine Trieschmann
From the article:
I haven’t attended a protest since 1992, the year I marched with a group of college students across the University of North Carolina’s verdant campus, demanding a freestanding black student union. The reasons are myriad: privilege, definitely; apathy, certainly; but mostly, personality. That student march was an aberration. I am, by nature, more recluse than activist. I read books on planes to avoid eye contact. I hide from the dry cleaner when he drops off clothes. When a stranger in the check-out line comments on the weather, I have to curb an instinct to growl. In short, I can think of nothing less pleasant than joining a crowd of strangers and chanting loudly.

Prelude To 35
Seth Kramer
Rae would rather endure nine hours at a train station in a snowstorm with no coat than spend one more minute at Jay's parents' house. Jay botches the job of running after Rae, and ends up with a bloody nose. All in all, a strange way to kick off an engagement…
Sure Thing
David Ives
Two people meet in a cafe and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love.
The Wedding Story
Julianne Homokay
The audience just wants a happy fairytale, and the Storyteller wants to oblige, but the bride and groom aren’t the perfect cake-topper they seem to be. Will we hear a bedtime story, or will we hear the real story?
Dead Giveaway
Daniel Guyton
It’s Valentine’s day and Robert has gotten Denise the perfect gift, or so he thinks. This examination of the hilarity in the phrase “til death do us part” has this husband and wife taking cracks at each other and splitting conversational hairs.
Sniffing The Pickup
Barbara Lindsay
It’s all about the timing at happy hour when Brad takes brother, Howard, to the bar to teach him a few things about meeting women. Clearly Julie has a lot to learn about making a love connection from friend Ruth. Will a hook-up, or a love connection be made?
It’s A Stretch
Donna Warfield
When you are looking for love in all the wrong places you don’t expect Mr.Right to pop into your yoga class. When Martin does just that (wearing half a Doorman’s uniform, half basketball shorts) Joan is forced to actually notice him, will she give him a second glance?
Post-its® (Notes on a Marriage)
Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman
In this homage to Love Letters, an actor and actress read the Post-it® Notes between a couple that span the duration of their lives together. Hilarious and moving, Post-its® explores the ups and downs of a relationship that were unexpectedly captured on scraps of paper.

The Seth Show: Breaking up with Facebook
February 7 at 7:00 PM
Eastworks' THE WEST END 116 Pleasant St, Suite 160 Easthampton, MA 01027
While even posting an event with this title is an automatic eyebrow raiser, the fact remains that breaking up is hard to do. When I decided that I would slowly be leaving social media all together for an indeterminate time, I wasn’t sure how I would go about promoting my performances without this platform. So here I am, asking you to come to a performance about trying to keep it casual with Facebook, while knowing I just need a clean break, once and for all.
How we network, socialize, find out about gatherings and happenings, and paradoxically feel less/more isolated is all wrapped up in social media. At the same time the algorithm is tracking every word we type, page and post we like and uses that Black Box to categorize our humanity in digital bites. Tangents, miscommunications and genuine connections all live side by side.
Is Facebook necessary? Is this just part of our world? If we abandon it and strive for face to face connections will that better our lives? Am I just kidding myself trying to get away from something that has become the best promotional tool for artists? Let’s dig in.
This is the last season of The Seth Show. Pay-What-You-Decide at the end of the show. Take a chance. You got nothing to lose.
